With a couple of common household products and a couple of tools you can get all aged up in minutes. Hammer any sharp metal edges on the project some galvanized metal pieces can be quite sharp then file or sand them smooth. As for chemicals you only need two things. The spray can be controlled to be heavier in one area while creating a light dusting of color on another area to depict the aging process.

Since we are trying to do the opposite and speed up the aging process we want to weaken the protective coating as much as possible. To help with this there is a protective coating on the metal to prevent aging. Clorox clinging bleach gel toilet cleaner i tried about 5 brands this worked best and regular old baking soda. Well i mean age galvanized metal that is.

Make sure you get the labels off all the way. Spray the metal and allow it to sit outside for a few days to add to the aged look. The coverage doesn t have to be complete or even on all areas of the metal piece. I had to rescrub and retreat the buckets to make it all look old.

You can also use the left over treated water but make sure you add plenty of water so you don t burn your plants. I believe it s a safer way to age metal than harsh chemicals. Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle then mix in some salt 2 tablespoons per cup should be more than enough. Don t worry about being too thorough at this point. This is what the steel wool is good for.
